Inspired by the journey of life, this high contrast piece has deep navy color that was achieved with the cyanotype process. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces blue prints using a two part chemical solution brushed on paper and exposed with light, typically the sun. I used the chemical solution to create gestural brushwork and used extra long exposure in the sun to achieve the deep color. The collage paper I coated with the cyanotype is vintage blueprints and nautical sailing charts. This paper ephemera symbolizes the record of personal history and voyages.
