ABOUT
Adam Collier Noel is an American painter, photographer, and collage artist living and working in the mountains of Blue Ridge, Georgia. Surrounded by shifting light, rugged terrain, and quiet isolation, his environment subtly informs a body of work rooted in memory, atmosphere, and abstraction. Blending photography, painting, and layered collage, Noel creates richly textured compositions that invite contemplation and emotional resonance. He received his BFA in Photography from the Herron School of Art and Design at Indiana University in 2002, where he developed a foundation in visual storytelling that continues to shape his evolving practice.
Noel’s work has been exhibited widely across the United States, including recent presentations in New York City, Miami Art Week, and the Hamptons Fine Art Fair. His artwork is held in private collections throughout the United States, Europe, South America, and Australia. Known for its depth, nuance, and tactile presence, his work has been featured in numerous print and online publications, reflecting a growing recognition among collectors and contemporary art audiences alike.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Throughout my career, I have been guided by a deep devotion to experimentation, continually blending mixed-media processes to push the boundaries of my practice. My artistic journey resists easy categorization, evolving through an ongoing exploration of diverse disciplines, subject matter, and materials. This spirit of curiosity carries into my most recent body of work, where I investigate large-scale abstract landscapes through layered, mixed-media techniques that merge intuition with structure.
Rooted in a long-standing love of collage and a desire to convey optimism and connection, my compositions are shaped by an intuitive sense of balance, color theory, and textural exploration. Working in a fluid, exploratory manner, I create vibrant abstract color-scapes constructed from found and reclaimed paper ephemera—blueprints, vintage maps, letters, and other fragments of history. These materials evoke a quiet nostalgia tied to my Midwestern upbringing, infusing each work with memory and place. I often build my paintings upon grid-like frameworks, both symmetrical and asymmetrical, which serve as an underlying architecture for the layered elements woven throughout the surface.
Each composition develops organically as successive layers of paper and paint are meticulously applied, concealed, and revealed. Patterns, typography, and found objects emerge within intricate arrangements that balance complexity and harmony. The resulting works invite viewers to slow down, look closely, and engage with the evolving surfaces—an intimate tapestry reflecting both my artistic evolution and personal journey.
