The inspiration for this piece was an irregular grid composition. I started with a base collage of various papers consisting of blue prints, watercolor paper, etc. From there I added layers of various paint colors and divided the canvas into a grid-like structure. When I paint it is usually have a general idea of the composition and let the process unfold organically without too much adherence to the initial concept. The numbers are from a vintage grocery receipt that I scanned and photo-transferred onto the surface. At first glance this is a black and white painting, but upon further inspection there are a kaleidoscope of colors within the bars. The result is a bold, graphic structured painting that I love.
