Inspired by the bold visual language of maritime communication, Garamond draws from the primary colors and rhythmic geometry of the International Naval Signal Flags. The artwork is built from layers of vintage maps, sailing charts, watercolor paper, envelopes, and other paper ephemera. These collage layers create a richly textured surface that is selectively veiled with acrylic paint, allowing glimpses of the underlying materials to emerge.

Bands of stripes establish a dynamic composition filled with vibrant energy, while the striped lines evoke both the precision of signal flags and the ordered structure of text, type, and classic fonts. The abstract work references the visual cadence maritime navigation, transforming familiar materials into a rhythmic, linear composition where color, pattern, and history converge.
